Thesis Title: Marriage transactions in contemporary India

Prof. Univ. Dr. Vintila Mihailescu

About

This year I will be finishing my MA in Anthropology and shifted recently to another area in anthropology, mainly anthropology of kinship (to connect it with my PhD thesis). To be more precise, I'm interested in the new forms of marriage transactions that occur in today's Romanian society (from prenuptial contracts to dowry). My fieldwork will be done in an area from the central part of the country, called Muscel, in both rural and urban areas.

My PhD thesis focuses on the mechanism through which dowry is decided in India, with a new classification of the types of marriage transactions made and a more precise classification.
